Northern Lights Swim Club (NLSC) seeks assistant coach - We are looking for dynamic individual with competitive swimming and coaching experience. Northern Lights Swim Club is Alaska’s premier swim club (220+ members) and is seeking an individual with the desire to be part of a great team.

Once hired, applicants will primarily work with swimmers in the 7-10 year age categories, but will occasionally work with swimmers of all ages and skills. Responsibilities will include warming up athletes, supervising athletes during dryland training, training athletes to improve technique and conditioning. Applicants will be closely supervised and will be on deck with a staff of three other coaches.

2009-2010 Head Varsity Swim Coach

(There are two head coaches in the program.  One is currently filled) 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of successful communication with teenage athletes, parents, teachers, community and administrators.
  • Ability to create and maintain a program promoting the development of the total student/athlete with an emphasis on physical and academic excellence, sportsmanship, team and school pride and respect for fans, coaches, team mates and opponents.
  • Ability to set a positive example through appropriate role modeling.
  • Understanding of multiple facets of specific sport fundamentals, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge and application of general and sport specific safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated successful coaching of the sport at a recognized competitive level.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Understanding of and adherence to the Palmer High School, MSBSD and ASAA guidelines.
  • Applicants must be able to meet the Palmer High School schedule of events and practices.
  • Possess an ASAA Coaching Certificate or be eligible for a one year waiver.
  • Completed MSBSD Extra Curricular Packet including an interested persons report for non-MSBSD district applicants.
  • Preferred but not required: Alaska Type A Teaching Certificate
